Quick answer

  • Inside Orlando city limits: put it at the curb on your yard waste day. The city picks up to two hand-loadable large items for free, with no appointment. The city's list doesn't name mattresses, though; see the note.
  • Unincorporated Orange County: large items, mattresses included, go out on your garbage day, between 6 p.m. the night before and 6 a.m. Limit 3 cubic yards per week.
  • Clean, undamaged mattress? Donate it at The Mustard Seed of Central Florida, 12 Mustard Seed Ln, Orlando. Drop-off Mon–Fri, 9 a.m.–3 p.m.
  • Hauling it yourself? The Orange County Landfill (5901 Young Pine Rd) is open to the public Mon–Sat, 8 a.m.–5 p.m. Fees are charged by weight, with a $10 minimum.

First: are you in the City of Orlando or unincorporated Orange County?

This decides which pickup day you use. A mailing address that says "Orlando" doesn't mean you're inside city limits, so check:

City of Orlando

Free curbside pickup, two items, on yard waste day. The city picks up some furniture, appliances and other large items free on your yard waste day, with no need to schedule. It takes up to two items, as long as they can be loaded into the truck by hand. Find your yard waste day.

Note on mattresses: the city's free-pickup list names appliances (refrigerators, dishwashers, washers and dryers), furniture ("sofas, chairs, dressers, TV consoles, or similar items") and other hand-loadable household items. It doesn't mention mattresses by name. We couldn't confirm from the city's page whether a mattress counts as one of the two free items. Call Solid Waste at 407.246.2314 or email swcustomersvc@orlando.gov to confirm.

How to set it out, per the city:

Too big or heavy? Items that can't be loaded by hand need a claw truck. The city says the cost depends on what you're throwing away, and it will tell you if you need to call 407.246.2314 to schedule. The city doesn't publish a price list for this on the page we checked.

Clearing out a lot at once? The city also offers a roll-off dumpster and dumpster-bag pickup. Bag pickup costs $100 per bag and shows up on your OUC bill within 1–2 billing cycles. The city collects within 3–5 working days of your request. You supply the "dumpster-in-a-bag," and furniture is allowed in it.

Missed pickup? Report it online or call 407.246.2314.

Unincorporated Orange County

Curbside large-item pickup on your garbage day. Orange County collects items too large for the garbage cart, including furniture, mattresses, appliances, TVs and up to four passenger car tires, on the same day as garbage.

Heads up: the schedule changed. On December 29, 2025, the county moved recycling and yard waste to a different day from garbage and large items. Older guides, and some older county pages, still say large items go out on yard waste day. Look up your current days.

The Mustard Seed of Central Florida sanitizes donated mattresses and gives them to families recovering from homelessness, disasters or personal crises.

Haul it to the landfill yourself

Orange County Landfill, 5901 Young Pine Road, Orlando, FL 32829 · (407) 836-6601

Fees (effective October 1, 2026): the minimum charge is $10. Fees are by weight:

Category (county wording) Rate Where
Class III: C&D debris, wood, "furniture, etc." $42.70/ton Landfill only
Class I: garbage, putrescible waste $56.40/ton Landfill & both transfer stations

The county's rate table doesn't list mattresses by name. Ask the scale house which rate applies. Cover and secure your load, because uncovered loads are charged double.

Transfer stations: Porter (1326 Good Homes Rd, 32818) and McLeod Road (5000 L.B. McLeod Rd, 32811) are open to the public Monday–Saturday, 8 a.m.–5 p.m. The county lists Class III material (which includes furniture) as only accepted at the Landfill, so call 407-836-6601 before taking a mattress to a transfer station.

Searching online? Pages about Orange County, California (its landfills offer free mattress recycling) often show up in results. Those programs don't apply in Orange County, Florida.

Pay someone to take it

If you can't lift it, or the city or county won't take it, a junk-removal service will haul it away for a fee. We haven't verified prices for Orlando-area junk-removal companies yet, so we don't list any. When you get a quote, ask whether disposal fees are included.

If you're buying a new mattress, ask the retailer whether delivery includes haul-away of your old one. Policies vary, and we haven't verified any specific store's policy.
